Stunning Ivory Hilted Balkan Ottoman Yataghan

Stunning Ivory Hilted Balkan Ottoman Yataghan www.swordsantiqueweapons.com

A very fine Balkan Ottoman Yataghan sword with huge walrus grip hilt slabs and ears.
A very sturdy fighting sword dating from the second half of the 19th century and being 71cms overall and with a 56cms deeply curved fullered blade with a filed and tapered spine.
The blade has a round koftgari cartouche to the right side and an unusual shaped cartouche to the left with silver koftgari of Arabic script with in each.
The walrus ivory grips are free from damage and measure 90mm acrossthe ears. The fine filigree bolsters and grip strap are also fully intact, though the grip strap has seperated slightly on the underside near the blade. The grip strap is set with fluted tear shaped corals to the top and small stones on the underside. The bolsters exhibit fine filagree work in copper and brass with coloured stones inset to each side.
Very good condition.
No scabbard.
