A good Wootz blade Shamshir with a very unusual silver Arabian hilt.

This sabre measures 95cms long and carries an 82cm long blade of a fine wootz construction.
The blade is double signed to the right side, now worn with age but does also carry the remains of gold within the signatures.
The surfaces display a very good wootz pattern throughout.
The percussion edges shows edge re-profiling in three places.
The hilt is most unusual and possibly unique. The hilt tapers towards the pommel and again widens and re-curves towards the blade, an aspect that offers a very comfortable and secure manner of sword handling. The integral pommel cap resembles that of many Eastern European sabres of the 18th century and earlier. The entire hilt and guard are made from silver, now worn with age.

A rare sabre from the Arabian regions.
