A very fine and rare Burmese dagger with a carved and pierced ivory hilt.

In the sheath, this dagger measures 31cms long. Out of the sheath it is 30cms long with a blade length of 18cms.
The carved ivory hilt is of an unusual oval cross section that tapers to the silver collar. The carving shows a figure or deity amidst foliage, appearing to be pulling him or herself through these tendrils.
The simple collar is silver and of traditional Burmese manufacture with beaded and twisted wire edges.
The blade is an exception example. There is a large central fuller to both sides that is surrounded by a thinner one to the edges of this fuller. Above and forward to the tip and another broader fuller.
To the forte and spine are applied gold and copper vines and flowers.
The blade is forward curving with a re-curve tip and remains razor sharp.
The sheath is a simple but well made bamboo type that is bound with 16 rattan ties.

A very fine and rare dagger with a very pleasing warm patina to all surfaces. The minor loss to the front of the ivory vines does not detract from the overall presence of this dagger.
