A fine rare shield
West Africa, Sudan

A fine rare shield West Africa Sudan www.swordsantiqueweapons.com

A fine well preserved West African shield.

This shield stands 113cms tall and is 42cms across.
It is constructed from dried hide and is supported by a central timber support.
The edges are rolled to add strength to the shape. The central support is somewhat molded in to the hide and secured in 10 places. There is a nipple like protrusion to the centre of the shield leaving room behind the shield for a hand to grip the support.
The entire shield shows a pleasing age patina to all surfaces of the hide and timber.

A fine example of the type.
