A fine large early Massai Seme.

This African sword measures 96.5cms long in the scabbard.
Out of the scabbard it measures 81.5cms long and carries a 67cms long blade.
The hilt is stitched hide over a string inner that likely covers a timber core.
The blade is of a thick flat hexagonal cross section at the hilt and it broadens in to a wide hollow forged double edged sword with a strong thickened tip and a pronounced medial ridge.
The scabbard is leather over a timber inner, stitched to the rear and with string work under leather designs to the front. Attached to the scabbard is its original broad scarified leather belt.

A fine and rare example displaying a pleasant patina throughout.
