A fine and rare Vietnamese shield

This rare example measures 57cms across. When sitting on its handles in a "bowl" like fashion it stands approx 12cms tall.
This rare shield from the Montagnard highland mountains of Vietnam/Laos.
The shield is made of timber which is reinforced with rattan along the edge and the surfaces lacquered black, with decoration to the front and rear in silver foil.
The rear arm rings and supports are timber and rattan that are secured in place with copper iwre pins and wrapping.
This shield is likely a ceremonial dance shield as it is usually seen being danced at the large water buffalo sacrifice rituals.

A very fine and rare example of a shield found in the minority tribes of the Montagnard regions.
