An exceptional example of a Georgian period Naval hanger.

This cutlass or large dirk measures just under 68cms long in its scabbard.
Out of its scabbard it measures 66cms long, with a blade length of 56cms.
The deeply curved blade has a 22cm rise from the edge of the forte to the tip.
The grip is a single section of carved ivory with the hilt fittings being gilded brass. The back strap and pommel are deeply engraved with gilded floral motifs and its original chain guard connected from the pommel loop to the figure eight serpent like guard.
The blade carries a Georgian cipher and other gilded designs within the blued panels.
The leather scabbard remains in exceptional condition for its age and is free from breaks. Its fittings are pierced and gilded fittings and bear the makers or retailers address on the throat.

An exceptional and untouched original example throughout.
