A fine and rare Laos / Montagnard shield.

This rare example measures 62cms across. It is from the Khas Kaseng people of southern Laos and seen in to the Montagnard & Vietnam regions.
The shield is made of timber which is reinforced with rattan along the edge and the surfaces lacquered black, with decoration to the front and rear in silver foil.
The rear arm rings and supports are timber and rattan that are secured in place with copper wire pins and wrapping.
This shield is likely a ceremonial dance shield as it is usually seen being danced at the large water buffalo sacrifice rituals.

A very fine and rare example of a shield found in the minority tribes of Southern Laos.
