A very good old Chinese fighting sword of large proportions.

This Dao or Sabre measures 94cms long in its sheath. Out it measures just under 91cms long with a 70cms long blade.
The entire hilt and scabbard is dressed in old green ray skin now worn with age. Both the hilt and scabbard are alos of rectangular form as is often seen in early 19th century sabres.
All fittings are a practical iron type showing Japanned surfaces remaining in places.
The Tsuba like cup guard is oval in shape and slightly loose as is so very common with these old swords, most often due to light timber shrinkage and movement of supporting fittings.
The blade is a very good quality fighting type of strong slender proportions, double fullers, sharpened back edge and a very clear pattern welded surface in hand.
The edge remains very sharp and there is a very subtle bell ring to the steel when struck.

An increasingly harder to find Chinese sword type, complete and in very good condition for its age.
