A very fine Pakpak Batak Kalasan.

This Batak sword measures 62cms long in its scabbard. Out it is just over 58cms long and carries a blade that is 46.5cms long.
The bird shaped hilt is of a carved and polished caramel coloured horn that is bound and inlaid with silver and Suassa.
The blade is of classic form for the type, having a thick straight spine and a deep belly, along with the almost kaudi like arrangement in the forte.
The scabbard is exceptionally carved at the throat and has a single silver inlaid section at this point. The remainder of the timber scabbard is heavily bound in silver and Suassa panels and wire. One Suassa rosette at the base is missing.

A very fine and rare example of the type.
