A fine old Pakpak Batak Kalasan sword.

This example measures approx 61cms long in its sheath. Out it is 57.5cms long and has a blade length of 47cms.
The curved timber hilt has the appearance of a parrot head and neck with applied silver rosettes for eyes and 4cms long suassa collar.
The blade has suassa wrapping at its base along with an unusually designed cut out, typical of the sword type.
The thick spine tapers perfectly to a full needle point while the cutting edge curves forward to a deep belly and up to the needle point.
The timber scabbard is bound with silver and suassa. The base carries two large decorative rosettes, held in place with a suassa pin. The scabbard throat has intricate native carvings in to which the blade and hilt fit perfectly.

A very nice example.
