A very good complete Keris Panjang or Chieftain Keris, Sumatra.

This example measures 70cms long in its sheath and 68.5cms out.
The blade is 58cms long, 2cms wide and has a long broad central fuller.
The base is broad and thick whilst the body is thin. Its edges are very sharp. the tip is full and it is a supple blade, made so to deflect from bones when used in execution duties.
The hilt or Hulu is of a style known as Tapah Kuda and is a very finely carved horn type free from loss or damage. The hilt cup appears to be pewter or tarnished silver, not tested.
The sheath is simple in form with the top being carved from well selected timber that shows a fine grain structure.
The stem of the sheath is of a dark or ebonised timber and a bone insert to the base. It is partially bound in silver wire.

A fine status Keris from Sumatra
