A good large example of a Madu shield or buckler.

Most often found as small target shields not much bigger than a fist, this iron and brass bound Madu is 63cms long from horn tip to horn tip with the shield section being 25cms across and approx 4cms deep.
The large black buck horns to the rear of the shield, known as Fakir's horns when the shield if not present, are very thick. They are capped with iron collars under the shield and each measures 4cms across at the base.
Often finished with iron spikes pinned to the antler tips, these antler's show no evidence of ever retaining iron tips.

A good large and rare example of the Madu fighting shield.
