A long thick Rencong similar in design to Rencong s171.
Approx 39cms overall and without a scabbard, this example is a very well crafted Rencong of good solid proportions.
The blade is 25cms excluding the stem ring/bolster. The stem ring is 18mm thick at the hilt. Both the stem ring and the blade show very nice clear laminations/patterns to the steel and has a duru seuke that when compared side by side is almost exactly the same as Rencong s171.
The faceted stem ring shape continues onto the carved horn Hulu Meucangge hilt before it follows the more rounded bulbous shape seen on these knives.
The tip of the hilts shows some losses that appear as old as the Rencong and were once and still are partially filled with original black resin.
Overall a very nice fighting/working knife from Northern Sumatra.
