Rhino hilted Moroccan Sa-if,

Rhino hilted Moroccan Sa-if Saif long 18th centruy German blade www.swordsantiqueweapons.com

A Sa-if of large proportions.
African sword known as a Sa-if, Morocco 19th century with earlier blade.
Overall is it 97cms long with a blade 81cms long.
The blade appears to be that of an 18th century German backsword that is clearly marked to both sides with guild/trade marks of small 'eyelash' stamps and X's in groupings of three with all markings indicating a trade blade of quality. The blade has three fullers and a sharpened backedge to the tip approx 20cms long.
The thick knuckle guard and lobed quillons still retain small traces of applied gold and there is some movement in this guard.
The hilt is large and of Rhino horn and remains in very good condition except for a small natural hole either side of the pressed pommel nut. There is a low quality patterned silver collar to the hilt that shows a soldered join under the knuckle guard.
Overall a very good Rhino hilted example of a Moroccan Saif
