Chinese sword, 19th cent unusual and rare<br>complete example www.swordsantiqueweapons.com

A very nice an unusual late 19th century Chinese Sabre.
Just under 82cms overall in the scabbard and the same out with a very thick 63cms blade.
This very unusual example remains in very healthy conditon for its age being free from any rust or pitting.
The pommel and collar show 'lucky' coin motifs as the the Tsuba style guard. The central portion is pierced and decorated to resemble this same coin motif. The edges of the guard are of simulated bamboo. The guard does show a crack to the central portion as seen in the images.
The blades spine is over 12mm thick at the integral tonkou and shows good distal taper towards the tip and cutting edge. The fullers are very well executed and Chinese characters are found to both sides of the forte.
The scabbard is of a multiple layer of leather construction and is in very good condition and also shows coin motifs to both ends.
Minor losses to the scabbard and grip binding.
