A nice large presentation/private purchase fighting Kukri owned by Jack.C.Hayes.
This large example is from the Darjeeling/Assam regions and measures 48cms in the scabbard, just under 47cms out with a blade over 35cms long.
The hilt is timber painted black, the bolster and butt plate/cap are brass. The butt plate/cap is most unusual appearing to be machined circles.
The Kukri balances upright on its edge at a balance point approx 5cms from the Kaudi.
The blade is of a laminated construction as can be seem along the cutting edge and is hollow ground.
To the right side of the blade reads'355894 Capt J.C.Hayes.3/8GR.'. Captain JC Hayes is mentioned in several post war notations as being a paymaster.
This personal marked Kukri could be from his time spent in or associated with the 3/8th Gurkha Rifles.
In good condition with original scabbard. Scabbard is split to the underside.
Worthy of further research.
