A stunning and massive Navaja.
This fine example, although in need of a clean remains in very good condition.
Measuring 103cms long when closed, when open it is a massive 197cms open with a blade of 94cms.
The body of this Navaja is pierced and decorated brass over timber that remains in perfect condition.
The blade shows a beautiful filed spine followed by a very long beveled spine through to the tip.
The blade is both pierced and inlayed as well as decoratively engraved with floral motifs and Spanish script that is hard to decypher in places.
The script reads on one side as follows, "Fabricada en Madrid al dia uno de Enero de 1895. For de me dueno tenin ??dado comigo". To the other side it reads "Si estabivora lepica nobayus por in guento ala botica soi la in benulle de todas". My apologies if this does not make sense but it is the best I can make out of the old script.
The back spring is well formed and also decorated with file work near the ring pull which is also finished with file work.
Ratchet is sound and back spring is strong.

A very fine addition to any Navaja collection. Navaja of this size and quality are very hard to find and those from Madrid even rarer.
