A very unusual Indian axe, likely from the wild hill tribes of the Khond region.

This rather unusual African axe, we are finding very hard to identify with accuracy.
There are similarities in many respects to Khond weapons as the axe head has a very Indian feel to it.
Overall this piece is just under 77cms long. The unusual axe head has a cutting edge 11cms across and is just over 14cms along the spine.
The spine shows an unusual protrusion and the socket is very well forged and faceted.
The head also shows a T-section upper and lower edge and an unusual 'knob to the base of the cutting edge. There are also hand struck decorative motifs to the flat of the blade.

A very unusual and possibly quite important Indian axe. Haft is likely a replacement.
