A complete and rare Chinese Sabre.

This Chinese sabre measures 90cms long in the scabbard.
Out of the scabbard the sabre is 87cms long with a blade length of 67cms.
The hilt retains its original 19th century bindings over timber grip slabs. The pommel, collar and Tsuba like guard are decorated floral motifs, possibly lotus buts and flowers?
The scabbard timbers are covered in ray skin, sanded smooth and dyed green.
The scabbard fittings are the same decorative style seen on the hilt, all matching and original to the sword.
The blade has a gently sweeping profile and remains in very good condition. All surfaces are darkened with age. There are two narrow fullers to each side and six dots to each side sitting in groups of three either side of the upper fuller.
The overall appearance is worn with losses to the ray skin, slips and losses to the timber scabbard and the hilt timbers have shrunk with age. One suspension fitting has separated in one corner.
Despite these condition issues typical with age, these sword has the potential to grade up very well if desired.

A rare and complete Chinese Dao or unusual form and with all fittings of an unusual design.
