A fine harpoon from the Congo regions of Africa.
This harpoon measures 170cms overall.
The large forged arrow like socket spear head is 18cms long.
Attaching the spear head to the shaft is a thick and expertly woven cord in a wide braid like pattern that offer great strength to this section.
The shaft is thick and tapers to a spear point where the iron head sits over, then narrows through the body of the spear only to thicken again at the base.
The entire timber surface wears an early lacquer coating, likely applied to protect the wood from splitting once taken from its native environment and placed in storage/collection.
A fine and rare African harpoon.
