A very good and unusual Tulwar from the North Western Frontiers, India / Afghanistan.
In the scabbard this sword is 81cms long.
Out it is 80cms with a blade length just over 67cms.
The hilt retains 90% of its original silver sheet covering and the solid silver lanyard fitting on the pommel.
The blade is of an unusual type, although not unknown for the regions and is of the Kilij form which displays a very well controlled pattern welded surface of high contrast metals.
The spine dips at 18cms from the hilt and broadens slightly at the sharpened back edge that starts 44cms from the hilt.
The forte is deeply stamped with a native armourer's stamp and there is a deep, hollow forged fuller running from the hilt through to the tip that is 58cms long.
The sheath is original, being black leather over timber.
A very well made fighting sword in very good condition.
