A very good and rare Maori Steering oar.
This fine example measures 152cms overall and has a width of 15cms.
The timber selected for this paddle is of very fine quality. The rich dark brown colour shows beautiful grains throughout the entire piece.
The cylindrical handle measures approx 65cms before it widens in to the paddle blade.
The underside is flat with the topside being of a tapering convex form.
This paddle certainly would have made for a very effecting, powerful and dangerous club had any skirmishes arisen during excursions abroad.
A fine and seldom seen Maori paddle that would display wonderfully with any Maori artifact collection.
