A fine Rhino hilted, well marked Ethiopian sabre with a Pall Mall Wilkinson blade.

This sabre measures 95cms long from tip to tip.
The blade is 84cms long which is an English made blade of very good quality. The blade is likely made for the Ethiopian market or perhaps more directly for Native soldiers in service of the crown or Mohamed Ally & Co within the majors city centres.
The blade shows script; "by Warrant, Henry Wilkinson, Sword makers to King Edward VII, Henry Wilkinson Pall Mall London", and a Pall Mall proof to the base of the blade. Below the Pall Mall address is Ethiopian script.
Along the spine is the name "Mohamedally & Co".
AM Mohamedally & Co building can be seen in the images presented. The company was the principal trading company in Ethiopia prior to the Italian Fascist invasion. Pages 986 & 987 of Encyclopaedia Aethiopica: He-N by Otto harrassowitz-verlag provide an interesting account of this India trading company and its major presence within Ethiopia.
The large Rhino hilt is 9.5cms across the base. The horn is a fine contrast of brown and black horn through which the blade's tang is secured over a fine silver Ethiopian coin.

A fine and rare sabre with a very good well marked blade, worthy of further research.
