Cameroon throwing knife

A rare sickle sword Cameroon throwing knife www.swordsantiqueweapons.com

A fine large sickle sword / throwing knife from the Matakam people of the Cameroon.

61cms tall with a woven leather handle 19cms long.
Showing a very nice age patina to all surfaces and with both sides decorated in chiseled motifs.
Fabricated from a near square section at the grip and forged with good distal taper through to the tip.
"Afrikanische Waffen" by Werner Fischer & Manfred A. Zirngibl, page 30, plate 34. The description reads "Matakam - One of the most beautiful weapons developed from an older design is the 'Sengese' throwing knife of the Matakam who live in the Mandara mountains. This knife is still used today and can be seen on men who use it both as a weapon and as ornamentation."

This A very good example of a 20th century African fighting sword, being from an isolated area, remote and seldom travelled.
