A very fine Dragon sword form the Boxer Rebellion era.

This example of the Chinese Prussian 1889 model just under 96cms with a blade length of 81cms.
These very rare swords have a Chinese dragon on the guard rather than a German eagle or state emblem that is normally seen.
It has been recorded that German eye witnesses to the Boxer Rebellion, report finding such swords in Chinese positions at Taku and in Chinese arsenals. Refer to the web based Dragon Article- "China-Waffen" at Traditionsverband for further documentation and images of these sword used within Chinese regiments of the Boxer Rebellion.
The hilt retains shark skin that is bound in later brass wire.
The spine of the blade is thick and the blade is full in profile.
A wonderful sword in good condition, including the original leather spacer at the fort and thumb ring behind the guard, signs of light restoration to the grip.

A very rare sword, seldom seen in the market place.
