African Shield, Southern Sudan.
Rare large shield from the southern regions of Sudan.
This piece measures 1.3 metres tall and just under 50cms wide.
Perforated hide to the rear of the shield that has created a raised dot work pattern to the front of the shield
A central wooden shaft supports the hide with a raised central area for the hand to grip the supporting shaft, rolled hide edges.
A very large and attractive piece of antique African art
