An Early 20th century Military Dadao.
92 cms tip to tip with a 60cms blade. The deep curved blade with pronounced back ridge show a brown rust patina all over, has two well cut fullers both sides of the blade and chips to the cutting edge near the percussion point. There is a piercing to the back of the raised ridge, often noted as being a point of attachment of a strap that is slung between this point and the ring dao, much like a rifle would be slung. The large cup guard measures 95mm across.
Timber grip slabs and original wrap have long since disappeared though there is a small example of the original binding still present to the ring.
This piece would with some effort clean up to be a very nice example of a seldom seen Early 20th century fighting sword.
