This British P.1888 Mk I Type 2 bayonet features its original scabbard, which is very seldom seen.
Bayonet measures 16 3/4" overall with a 12" double edge blade marked with inspectors marks, broad arrow "WD" War dept?, "(crown)/VR" for Victoria Regina, "7 / 98" 1898 date, and the maker, "WILKINSON LONDON".
The blade has never been sharpened and is an overall bright condition with no pitting.
The guard and pommel show an overall dark patina. The pommel is stamped "982", a weapon or unit marking.
The grips are secured with two bras rivets and feature an oil hole. Grips are good and show light wear and a couple of small dings.
The scabbard is original and in good to very good condition. the black leather body is solid and is showing light wear. the steel mounts show a dark patina with no damage.
Overall this is a very good example of an 1888 which has its very hard to find scabbard still present. bayonet is found in Janzen's on page 55 and in Kiesling vol. one number 175.
