A very rare and large fighting sword or Dhaab from Northern Thailand, Laos border regions.

In its scabbard this sword measures 92.5cms long.
Out it measures 91cms long with a blade length of 63.5cms.
The handle of the type is an imitation of that seen on the swords reputed to have been gifted to King Rama III's Chief CommanderChao Phyaya Bodindeja. Scabbard mounts in a similar stlye too. Commander Chao's swords also had Tsuba like guards. This sword I would suggest is Northern Thai border regions of Laos and through to Yunnan and over to Tonkin. It is a large and important fighting type of a unique style, also belonging to a man of wealth or influence. This type has also been referred to as Katana types but the Katana type are more distinct and akin to a Katana.

A very rare sword type showing the wonderful cross pollinations of Old Siam and French Indo China.
