A good large Ethiopian Shotel.

This native sword with a European trade blade measures 105cms long and has a blade length of 91cms.
The hilt is Rhino horn, carved from two pieces and joined in the middle of the grip. The pommel measures 10cms at the widest point and is capped with a very fine decorative silver cup through which the blade is peened.
The blade as noted, is European, one of the many thousands imported in to the region during the 19th and 20th centuries. It is on a narrow profile with a deep single fuller to each face.

A good rare sword.
