African Axe, Songe currency axe

A very nice example of a Songe axe.
Just on 40cms tall, this axe has a lovely thick forged axe head with forge rolled upper and lower edges, nice crisp beveled cutting edge and geometric designs and piercings to the main portion of the blade.
The entire shaft is covered in stitched Waran(monitor lizard) skin that remains in excellent condition with a few small losses.
These axes are both a symbol of prestige and also used as currency.
A nice example.
