A 19th century Western Solomon Islands war club, 124cms
This lovely hand carved example is a sturdy fighting club or large proportions.
Being 4cms wide at the narrow base and 2cms thick, it flares to the large 'cutting' style tip that is 9cms across and approx 25mm thick.
The head of this example has a thin raised medial ridge of 35cms to the centre of each side.
A number of small age chips and bruising consistant with old use.
Other losses as seen in the images seem to be more 'modern' based on the lighter patina to the timber.
A nice large genuine fighting club being a symbol of stength and power within the community.
