A very nice Khanda hilted sword with a pattern welded blade.
Overall this old warrior is 107cms long with a beautiful pattern welded blade of 85cms.
The sword remains in very good condition for its age and would date from the 18th century.
The blade shows clear pattern welding, has a fuller towards the spine that stops about 26cms from the blades tip. From this point the tip narrows to sharpened back edge.
The large Khanda hilt retains its original fibre and resin bound grip that is covered in a stitched resin coated fabric cover, both parts remain in very healthy condition and are seldom if ever seen on these old Khanda hilts. The hilt remains uncleaned and like so many collections put together in the early 1900s, it is covered if a thin coating of cosmolene to presereve the steel over time and it has done a very good job. The large pommel spike is also in very good condition and displays engravings to it. This large 'spike' enabled two handed control of this large sword if needed.
Overall a very nice and large example of a very seldom seen sword.
